    SKOKIE, Ill., Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Bell & Howell Company (NYSE: BHW)
announces the appointment of Michael A. Dering as president and chief
executive officer of its Durham, North Carolina-based Bell & Howell Mail
Processing Systems business, a leading manufacturer and supplier of mail
processing systems and software solutions for high volume mail operations.
    Since joining Bell & Howell in July 1996, Dering has served as president
and CEO of the company's Cleveland-based transportation and vehicle business,
Bell & Howell Publications Systems Company, which is a leading provider of
turnkey systems used to manage information for automotive and powersports
dealers.  Until a successor is named, Dering will continue to oversee both
